Today was relatively easy. We had uphill all the way but a gentle tail wind pretty much negated the gentle ascent. It’s the 4 day of almost continuous rain so we are ready for some better weather
After 22km I got our first puncture. Luckily the rain eased up for me to fix it. Funnily enough Jens told us over breakfast that they had no punctures on the entire TransAmerica! We are not so lucky despite both using the Schwalbe tyres. Too bad for us then
We found a very pleasant general store for lunch in Leaburg
Higher up the trail we got into the site of the forest fires from last year, a moving experience when you think about all those people trying to save their homes against the fire. We could smell the ash and ride between the burnt trees. Quite an experience
As it is still cold and wet we managed to get ourselves an hotel room. I phoned ahead and got the price of $179 but when I said we were cycling we got a much better rate. The landlady very kindly gave us the room for $100. Good to know that cyclists get preferential treatment 😀
Sorry I jinxed you with my no-flat-tire story!
Hey Jens. Don’t feel bad. I think you just had more than your fair share of luck 🍀
