104.35km. 1,034m ascent. 4h49 ride time
Following a not so great night’s sleep in the North Park at Marshfield due to the everlasting heat, we set off early to beat the heat agin.
Wonderfully cool so early and a side to tail wind made today’s ride really enjoyable, even though it was up near 40C at lunchtime just before we reached Houston 🥵.
Missouri has had excessive rain prior tour arriving so everything was lush and green. Missouri is a beautiful State as long as you enjoy the never ending ups and downs the roads make. We do enjoy this, so we had a great time. Most of the cyclists we have met warned us about the never ending hills, but it is not dissimilar to back home, just more frequent ups and downs 🤪
We stopped at Hartville to get more water and bought an Angel cake from the Amish (delicious by the way)
After Hartville there was only one possible stop for water but when we arrived the store was closed and being renovated 😱. We would not have had enough water to get to Houston but the lady who had bought the place was there and had cold water in the fridge, just for cyclists 🤩
We got our bottles topped up and the lady who has bought the shop spoke to other cyclists who suggested she make the cyclist only campground also a cyclist hostel, she thinks she will do that, so it’s good news for future TransAmerica riders 👍
