Silverthorne to Guffy. The big one
138.31km. 1,462m ascent. 7h02 ride time
Today was the big one with the Hoosier Pass at just over 3,500m and then a long run down to Guffy. We had company for the climb as I had met Scott and Christine Beam a way back when I stopped on a climb to take a picture of the scene behind us (and to rest a bit as it was a big climb). Scott is the Windfield app developer and I saw the logo on his shirt ‘oh, I have that app on my Garmin’ I said. Scott replied ‘Really? It’s my app!’
After that we kept in touch via Strava and arranged to ride the Hoosier Pass together.
The climb began gently out of Silverthorne and got steeper but it was a relatively easy climb before we parted at the summit, the Beams back to Silverthorne as we continued to Guffy
After Hoosier we descended to Fairplay and were offered cold water but the kind lady of the Lost Antler
Lunch at the park and then on down the long road to Guffy
Here we overnighted, basically on a military cot in a shed, no running water and no electricity but we met up with some young guys bikepacking which was fun.
All the restaurants and bars were closed so we ate our iron rations in the shed
