68.30km. 692m ascent. 3h17 ride time
I forgot to mention that we caught up with a TransAmerica Race rider yesterday on one of the longer hills 😱
To bring things into perspective: he started 05/06/2022 (we started 02/05/2022) and he had been riding all night that day, so it’s not because we are super fast, just he was doing far more each day. Anyway we met him again in the evening as he was also staying (6hrs) at the Lazy L Motel (good, cheap, clean and silent AC 😀)
Today was a short day so we didn’t start before 07:00
Again the famous rolling hills, but today 2 which were pretty steep at <1km and 8-15% grade. That equals bottom gear for me, the first time I have had to use that one 😱. And by the time we got to the steep ones it was already nearing 40C 🔥
We enjoyed the rolling hills and stopped at an ancient mill run, not by a water wheel but a turbine. It hasn’t actually run since 2008 because of a couple of floods, but the warden thinks it would still work the mill is at Alley Spring where. An entire river comes to surface. Most impressive
After the mill a gruelling climb up over the hill to then descend to Eminence where we have a motel with AC. Camping is still. Or an option in this heat 🥵
