Today was to be a big climbing day so we set out early to try to arrive before it got too hot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The climbing started in Richmond and brought us to McKey where we saved another turtle from certain death on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again the countryside was beautiful, green and wooded as it has been for the previous days. So far Kentucky is the best cyclists State we have risen through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were caught up by one of the TransAmerica racers, Julio Salazar who was suffering from the heat but otherwise enjoying the race (that is what he told us anyway)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we arrived at Buckhorn we planned to get some beer to take to our overnight at the Buckhorn Lake State Park Resort. Out of luck! Buckhorn is in a dry county! (Luckily I had a little gin left from the present the guys way back at Master’s Bait and Tackle shop gave us)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We met up with Ronald Mullenax riding in the other direction and had an ice cream together before parting ways. Us down to the lake and he westwards. The resort is great BUT there is a price in climbing to pay. There are 2 hills, both steep and amount to 350m ascent extra! Worth it if your legs are strong, avoid it if you don’t like climbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
